Creativity and Self-Love: Why Art Is a Path Back to Yourself

Hi, I’m Korynn — artist, mother, curious human, and founder of The Curiosity Coach.

I’ve always believed that creativity is more than just a talent or a hobby. It's a language, one that doesn’t rely on words to say: I’m here. I matter. I’m listening.

Over the years, my own creative practice has become a place of deep self-inquiry, joy, and presence. It’s how I regulate, how I rest, how I remember who I am underneath all the noise. In fact, it has become my very own rebellion against perfectionism, and that’s what led me here— to build The Curiosity Coach as a place where others could experience that too!

Because I believe that creativity is one of the most powerful acts of self-love we have.

Creativity Invites Us In

In a world that often asks us to hustle, produce, fix, or prove, creativity gives us permission to pause. To listen. To just be, and rest in a pure state of I Am.

When we pick up a brush, a pencil, a pair of scissors, or even just start scribbling on the back of an serviette — we’re saying: “I’m worthy of this moment.” There’s no performance, no pressure. Just a gentle unfolding of whatever wants to come through.

It might not make sense (most good things don’t at first). But it’s honest. And that honesty is healing.

It’s not about making Art — it’s about making Space

One of the things I say often in my workshops is: "You’re not here to make something perfect. You’re here to make something real."

One of the most important values that guides everything I do and teach is Authenticity. By unlocking your creative voice, you allow both your life and your art to reflect your true self.

Creativity opens the door to emotional regulation, nervous system support, and authentic expression — even if you never call yourself an artist. Especially then. It’s about process over product, presence over performance.

I’ve worked with people who haven’t held a paintbrush since primary school, and something magical happens when they remember: Oh… I’m allowed to play. It’s not just about feeling good — though that’s definitely part of it. It’s about returning to yourself in real time.

Walking Drawing – Intuitive Line Work from the Wodi Wodi Track

These walking drawings were created in motion — mark by mark, breath by breath. Each line is a record of presence, of how it felt to move through the bush, not just what it looked like. Drawn intuitively while walking the Wodi Wodi track, they honour movement as a form of remembering — a way to listen, notice, and come home to the body. Part of my creative practice in regulation, connection, and play.

This fun creative process will be taught as part of our up coming Sketchbook Adventures.

Creativity Teaches Discernment

Each mark you make, each colour you choose, each time you pause or lean in — you’re learning something about yourself.

You’re noticing what excites you.

What soothes you.

What lights you up (and what doesn’t).

These small creative choices become a language of discernment — a way of tuning into your preferences, your needs, your “yes” and your “no.” That’s not just self-expression. That’s self-awareness.

And when you practice that kind of awareness in a creative space, it starts to ripple out into other parts of life. You begin to recognise the difference between what feels aligned and what doesn’t — in your relationships, your work, your rhythms. That’s powerful.

Creativity Nurtures Intrinsic Motivation

One of the things I love most about creativity is that, when taught with a heart-centered approach, it isn't driven by external rewards. There's no gold star for the "best" brushstroke. Instead, it invites us to follow our own curiosity.

That’s intrinsic motivation — doing something simply because it feels good, meaningful, or interesting. Not because someone told you to. Not for praise. But because something inside you lights up.

When we create from that place, we strengthen our inner compass. We practise listening to what we want, not what we think we should do. And that builds confidence, clarity, and a deeper sense of agency — especially powerful in a world that often pulls our attention outward.

In my workshops, I see this all the time. People begin tentatively, unsure of what they’re “meant” to do. But slowly, they start to trust their own instincts. They explore. They take risks. They play. And in that playfulness, something awakens: I’m allowed to want what I want. That’s not just motivation — that’s empowerment.

Our School Workshops create safe, joyful spaces for students to explore creativity, regulate emotions, and connect with themselves — no experience needed. Curious minds welcome.

This course presents an extraordinary opportunity to delve into and challenge the creative domain within the visual arts. Our students were thoroughly engaged, deriving both enjoyment and a sense of challenge throughout the program. The structure of the course, with its bi-termly workshops, provided consistency and facilitated a thoughtful development of ideas, culminating in the creation of exceptional artworks. The structure and content, meticulously designed by Korynn, were exceptional, enabling students to create unique pieces and express themselves individually. They treasured the experience and are eagerly anticipating the introduction of new content in 2025.

This Is the Heart of My Work

As an artist, my personal practice is built on layers, texture, excavation — both literal and emotional. I paint to remember. I create to reconnect. And I teach not to instruct, but to invite.

The Curiosity Coach was born from a desire to share this with others — whether you’re a support worker, a school teacher, a psychologist, or someone simply seeking more aliveness in your day.

I work with organisations, teams, and individuals to create spaces that feel like a breath out.

Playful. Safe. Brave. And completely judgment-free.
